Chrome Dentures London: Ultra-Thin, Ultra-Secure.
Cobalt-chromium partial dentures offer a thinner, lighter, and more stable alternative to acrylic. Precision-cast clasps grip your natural teeth, providing a secure fit that may allow a palate-free design for upper dentures.

What Are Cobalt-Chrome Dentures?
Chrome dentures use a custom-cast cobalt-chromium alloy framework instead of thick acrylic. The metal framework sits behind your teeth and is virtually invisible, while precision clasps grip onto your remaining natural teeth for support and stability.
Because cobalt-chromium is significantly stronger than acrylic, the framework can be made much thinner — typically less than 0.5mm — making it more comfortable to wear and less intrusive in the mouth.
The Palate-Free Advantage
With a conventional acrylic upper denture, the entire palate must be covered to achieve suction. This can block taste buds, reduce temperature sensation, and for some patients trigger a gag reflex.
Because chrome dentures grip onto your natural teeth with clasps, they do not always rely on suction. In suitable cases, this allows us to design an upper denture that leaves the palate partially or fully open.
- Better taste sensation
- Temperature awareness
- Reduced gag reflex

Who May Benefit from Chrome Dentures?
Chrome dentures may be suitable for patients with remaining natural teeth who are looking for a more stable and comfortable partial denture.
Partial Denture Wearers
Patients with remaining natural teeth who want a lighter, more stable partial denture.
Gag Reflex Sufferers
Patients who find palate coverage uncomfortable may benefit from a palate-free design.
Active Lifestyles
Those who want confidence that their denture is securely clasped during daily activities.
Heavy Bite Forces
The metal framework can withstand greater forces than acrylic, suitable for patients with strong bites.
Chrome dentures require remaining natural teeth for clasp retention. A clinical assessment is needed to determine whether your teeth can support a chrome framework and which design is most appropriate.
The Treatment Process
Chrome dentures typically require 4–5 appointments over 3–4 weeks.
Assessment
Clinical examination, discussion of options, and primary impressions of your teeth and gums.
Precision Impressions
Detailed impressions using custom trays for an accurate fit. Bite registration taken.
Metal Try-In
The cast framework is tried in your mouth to check fit, comfort, and clasp positions before teeth are added.
Wax Try-In
Teeth set in wax on the framework. You can preview the appearance and request shade or position changes.
Final Fit
The completed denture is fitted, bite checked, and any minor adjustments made. Aftercare instructions provided.
Aftercare & Maintenance
Proper care of your chrome denture helps maintain its fit, appearance, and the health of your remaining teeth.
Do
- Remove and clean the denture after meals when possible
- Brush the framework and clasps with a soft denture brush
- Soak in denture cleaner overnight as directed
- Clean your natural teeth thoroughly, especially around clasped teeth
- Attend regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments
Avoid
- ✕ Bending clasps to adjust the fit yourself — this can damage the framework
- ✕ Using abrasive toothpaste which can scratch the acrylic
- ✕ Soaking in bleach or very hot water
- ✕ Sleeping with the denture in (unless advised otherwise)
- ✕ Neglecting the natural teeth that support the denture
Clasped Teeth Need Extra Care
The teeth that support your chrome denture clasps are particularly important to maintain. Plaque can accumulate around clasp areas, increasing the risk of decay. We recommend thorough brushing around these teeth and regular professional cleaning with our hygienists to keep them healthy long-term.
Risks & Considerations
We believe in providing balanced information to help you make an informed decision.
Clasp Wear on Teeth
Over time, clasps can cause slight wear on the enamel of supporting teeth. Regular monitoring helps manage this. In some cases, rest seats are prepared on the teeth to distribute force more evenly.
Adjustment Period
New dentures feel unfamiliar initially. Speech and eating may be affected for the first few weeks as your mouth adapts. This is normal and typically resolves with time.
Visible Clasps
Depending on tooth position, some metal clasps may be visible during smiling. We design placements to minimise visibility, and alternative clasp types can be discussed.
Supporting Tooth Health
The natural teeth supporting the denture must remain healthy. If a clasped tooth is lost, the denture design may need to be modified or remade.
All treatment options, risks, and alternatives are discussed during your consultation. A written treatment plan with costs is provided before any treatment begins.
