Prevention & Aesthetics

Why Professional Cleaning Matters

Even with excellent brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar build up in areas that are difficult to reach at home. Professional cleaning removes this buildup and helps prevent gum disease — the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

Oral Cancer Screening

We check your tongue, cheeks, and lips for early warning signs during every visit.

Gum Health Assessment

We measure pocket depths around each tooth to detect early signs of gum disease.

Ultrasonic Scaling

Gentle vibration removes hardened tartar (calculus) that brushing alone cannot shift.

Airflow® Polish

A jet of warm water and fine powder removes stains and biofilm for a fresh, clean feel.

Gentle Stain Removal

What is Airflow?

Airflow is a Swiss-made polishing system that uses a controlled mix of warm water, air, and fine powder to clean teeth and remove stains. It is a popular alternative to traditional polishing paste.

  • Gentle on Teeth

Suitable for patients with sensitive teeth, implants, and orthodontic appliances.

  • Reaches Difficult Areas

The powder jet cleans between teeth and around orthodontic brackets.

  • Removes Surface Stains

Effective at removing staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.

Note: Airflow removes surface stains but does not change the underlying colour of teeth. For colour change, see our teeth whitening page.

Direct Access — No Dentist Referral Needed

Under Direct Access regulations, you can book a hygiene appointment without needing to see a dentist first. This means you can visit us for a professional clean even if you are registered at another practice or have not seen a dentist recently.

While our hygienists can identify areas of concern, they cannot diagnose conditions such as decay or prescribe medication. We recommend regular dental examinations alongside hygiene appointments.

After Your Hygiene Appointment

What to expect and how to maintain results.

Do

  • Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
  • Use interdental brushes or floss daily
  • Wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking after treatment
  • Attend hygiene appointments every 6 months (or as recommended)
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush if gums feel tender

Avoid

  • Dark-coloured food and drinks for 24 hours after Airflow
  • Smoking (increases risk of gum disease significantly)
  • Skipping flossing or interdental cleaning
  • Using hard-bristled toothbrushes (can cause gum recession)
  • Rinsing with mouthwash immediately after brushing (dilutes fluoride)

Patient Experiences

Nervous Patient

A patient who had avoided the dentist for over five years due to anxiety attended for a hygiene appointment. They found the experience comfortable and now attends regularly.

Individual experiences may vary. Treatment outcomes depend on individual circumstances.

Stain Removal

A regular coffee drinker attended for Airflow polishing. The treatment removed visible staining and they reported their teeth looked and felt noticeably cleaner.

Individual experiences may vary. Airflow removes surface stains; it does not change the underlying tooth colour.

Restoring a Chipped Front Tooth

A patient attended our clinic for an emergency appointment after chipping her upper left front tooth. Fortunately, the tooth was not painful or sensitive, but the chip significantly affected the appearance of her smile.

Transforming Discoloured & Chipped Teeth

The patient attended a consultation unhappy with the appearance of her upper front teeth. Her upper right central incisor (UR1) was noticeably discoloured, and both central incisors had small chips affecting the overall aesthetics of her smile. She explained that she had fallen on her teeth when she was younger, which pushed the UR1 slightly backwards. Over time, the tooth became non-vital and eventually required root canal treatment. Although the tooth was symptomless, it still appeared darker than the neighbouring teeth.
