Building Confidence for Life

Our Child-Friendly Approach

Dental anxiety often starts in childhood. At Smile Dentist, our goal is to break that cycle by introducing your child to the dental environment gradually, at their own pace.

Tell-Show-Do

We explain each step in child-friendly language, show the tools, and then proceed gently. No surprises.

Positive Reinforcement

Every patient receives praise and encouragement to build confidence and create positive associations with dental visits.

No Forced Treatment

We never force treatment. If a child is not ready, we take a step back and try again at the next visit.

Preventive Treatments

Protecting your child's teeth before problems develop.

Fissure Sealants

A thin, invisible protective coating painted over deep molar grooves to seal them against decay. Quick, painless, and requires no drilling.

StandardFrom £65.00
MemberFrom £32.50

Fluoride Varnish

A high-concentration fluoride varnish applied to tooth surfaces to strengthen enamel and help protect against sugar and acid attacks.

StandardFrom £40.00
MemberFrom £20.00

Orthodontic Screening

We monitor jaw growth and tooth development. Early detection of crowding or bite issues allows for timely intervention.

When Should My Child First Visit?

"First Tooth, First Visit"

The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) recommends seeing a dentist as soon as the first milk tooth appears (usually around 6 months), or by their first birthday.

Why so early?

It allows us to check for early signs of decay (such as "Baby Bottle Decay") and helps your child get used to the sights, sounds, and smells of the dental clinic before they ever need treatment.

Oral Health Tips for Parents

Simple steps to protect your child's smile at home.

Do

Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste appropriate for their age

Supervise brushing until at least age 7

Encourage drinking water and milk rather than sugary drinks

Book regular dental check-ups every 6 months

Use a mouthguard for contact sports

Avoid

Putting babies to bed with bottles of milk or juice (can cause decay)

Frequent snacking on sugary foods between meals

Sharing spoons or cutlery (cavity-causing bacteria can be transferred)

Using adult toothpaste for children under 3 (too much fluoride)

Rinsing with water immediately after brushing (let the fluoride work)

Restoring a Chipped Front Tooth

A patient attended our clinic for an emergency appointment after chipping her upper left front tooth. Fortunately, the tooth was not painful or sensitive, but the chip significantly affected the appearance of her smile.

Transforming Discoloured & Chipped Teeth

The patient attended a consultation unhappy with the appearance of her upper front teeth. Her upper right central incisor (UR1) was noticeably discoloured, and both central incisors had small chips affecting the overall aesthetics of her smile. She explained that she had fallen on her teeth when she was younger, which pushed the UR1 slightly backwards. Over time, the tooth became non-vital and eventually required root canal treatment. Although the tooth was symptomless, it still appeared darker than the neighbouring teeth.
