In many clinics, a check-up is a rushed 10-minute glance. At Smile Dentist South Kensington, we believe that the examination is the most important appointment you will ever have. It is the foundation of your oral health.
We have invested in advanced diagnostic technology to ensure that nothing is missed. Whether you are coming in for a routine maintenance visit or you haven't seen a dentist in 10 years, our approach is judgment-free, meticulous, and focused entirely on you.
It is not just about cavities. We examine the health of your gums, the function of your jaw joint (TMJ), the soft tissues of your mouth (Oral Cancer Screening), and the integrity of your existing fillings.
What Happens During Your Visit?
Before we look in your mouth, we talk. Do you have any pain? Do you dislike the colour of your teeth? Are you anxious? We tailor the exam to your concerns.
This is potentially life-saving. We examine your tongue, cheeks, palate, and throat for any signs of abnormalities, lumps, or discolouration. Early detection of mouth cancer significantly improves outcomes.
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. We perform a Basic Periodontal Examination (BPE), gently measuring the gap between your gum and tooth. This tells us if you have Gingivitis (reversible) or Periodontitis (requires treatment).
Dr. Yasha or his team will examine every surface of every tooth using high-magnification loupes. We look for early decay, failing restorations, and structural integrity issues.
If clinically necessary, we take digital radiographs (Bitewings) to see between the teeth and under old fillings where the eye cannot see. These images appear instantly on the screen in front of you.
We check for clicking, popping, or stiffness in your jaw joint. This helps us diagnose Bruxism (teeth grinding) which causes headaches and worn teeth.
We check how your teeth meet when you chew. An unbalanced bite can lead to migraines and broken teeth.
You leave with a written treatment plan, transparent costs, and a clear timeline. No surprises.

No. The exam is purely for diagnosis. If we find an issue, we will give you a printed treatment plan with the Member and Non-Member prices. You can go home and think about it.
If you are in pain, please book an Emergency Appointment (also £30 for new patients) rather than a routine exam, as we will need to allocate specific time to get you out of pain.
Absolutely. We are a family practice. We offer a specific Child Exam (£30 for New Patients) and if you join the Family Membership, adding a child is just £10/month.
For most patients, every 6 months. This allows us to catch decay when it is tiny (and cheap to fix) rather than waiting until it hurts (and needs a root canal).
