Why Regular Examinations Matter
Many dental conditions — including decay, gum disease, and oral cancer — can develop without obvious symptoms. A regular examination allows your dentist to identify issues early, when they are typically simpler and less costly to treat.
Early Detection
Catching problems early — such as small cavities or early gum disease — means they can often be treated more simply and at lower cost.
Oral Cancer Screening
Every examination includes a soft tissue check. Early detection of mouth cancer significantly improves treatment outcomes.
Personalised Plan
You leave with a clear, written treatment plan and transparent costs. No surprises. No obligation to proceed.
What Happens During Your Examination
A systematic assessment of your oral health.
Discussion
We start by listening to your concerns. Do you have any pain? Anything you would like to change about your smile? Are you anxious? This helps us tailor the examination to you.
Soft Tissue & Oral Cancer Screening
We examine your tongue, cheeks, palate, and throat for any signs of abnormalities, lumps, or discolouration. This is a routine part of every examination.
Gum Health Assessment (BPE)
We perform a Basic Periodontal Examination, gently measuring the gap between your gum and tooth at six points per tooth. This identifies gingivitis (reversible) or periodontitis (requires treatment).
Tooth-by-Tooth Assessment
Every surface of every tooth is examined using magnification loupes. We look for early decay, cracks, failing restorations, and structural issues.
Digital X-Rays (If Clinically Needed)
If necessary, digital radiographs are taken to see between teeth and under existing fillings. Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film. These are charged separately.
Jaw Joint & Bite Check
We assess your TMJ (jaw joint) for clicking, stiffness, or pain, and check your bite alignment. This helps identify grinding (bruxism) which can cause headaches and tooth wear.
Written Treatment Plan
You leave with a personalised treatment plan, transparent costs (showing both standard and member pricing), and a clear timeline. There is no obligation to proceed.

Nervous About Your Visit?
We see many patients who are anxious about dental visits and there is no judgement.
We Listen First
Tell us about your concerns before we begin. We tailor the appointment to your comfort level and go at your pace.
You Are in Control
Raise your hand at any time and we stop immediately. You decide the pace.
No Judgement
Whether it has been 6 months or many years since your last visit, we focus on moving forward, not looking back.
Gentle Approach
Our dentists are experienced with anxious patients and use a calm, gentle approach throughout.
Diagnostic Technology
We use technology to show you what we see.
Digital X-Rays
Digital radiographs use significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays. Images appear instantly on screen, allowing us to show you and explain any findings in real time.
Intraoral Cameras
Small cameras take close-up photographs of your teeth, so you can see exactly what the dentist sees — cracks, wear, or plaque accumulation.
Your Dental Team
Your examination is carried out by an experienced, registered dentist.

Patient Experiences
First Visit in Years
Situation: Patient had not visited a dentist for over 8 years due to anxiety and was concerned about what might be found.
Approach: The examination was conducted at the patient's pace, with each finding explained and shown on screen. A treatment plan was provided with no pressure to proceed immediately.
Outcome: The patient felt reassured and returned to begin treatment the following month, having had time to consider the plan.
Individual experiences may vary.
Early Detection
Situation: Patient attended for a routine examination with no pain or obvious symptoms.
Finding: Digital X-rays revealed early decay between two back teeth that was not visible to the eye. The cavities were small enough to be treated with simple fillings.
Outcome: The issues were treated before they could progress to the point of requiring root canal treatment or crowns.
Individual experiences may vary.
