What's Included in Your Extraction Fee
Every wisdom tooth extraction at Smile Dentist London is carried out by a GDC-registered dentist and includes the following — the fee shown for your clinical category covers everything below.
Clinical assessment & treatment planning
A GDC-registered dentist reviews your symptoms, medical history and x-rays, explains the procedure, and obtains your written informed consent.
Local anaesthetic
Modern local anaesthetic is used to fully numb the area. Topical anaesthetic gel is applied first to make the injection itself comfortable.
The extraction itself
Carried out gently and at a pace that suits you. For surgical extractions this may include a small gum incision and tooth-sectioning to remove the tooth in pieces — a routine technique that minimises trauma to surrounding tissue.
Suturing where required
Dissolvable or non-dissolvable stitches are placed where appropriate to support healing. Non-dissolvable sutures are removed at your follow-up visit.
Written aftercare
Clear written guidance covering the first 24 hours, the following week, pain management options, and signs of dry socket or infection to watch for. Our reception line is available during normal working hours; out of hours, please attend NHS 111 or your nearest A&E.
Post-operative review
A short follow-up appointment 7–10 days later to confirm healing is on track, included in the extraction fee where clinically appropriate.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies between individuals and depends on the complexity of the extraction and your general health. The timeline below is a general guide — your dentist will tailor aftercare to your case. Please contact us if you have any concerns at any stage.
- 1
Day 0 (day of procedure)
After the extraction
You will rest at the clinic until your dentist is satisfied you are comfortable to leave. We provide written aftercare, gauze if needed, and our practice contact details for working-hours support. Bite firmly on the gauze for 30–60 minutes. Avoid hot food, smoking, alcohol, exercise and vigorous rinsing for the first 24 hours.
- 2
Days 1–3
Peak swelling and tenderness
Mild to moderate swelling and bruising is expected, typically peaking on day 2–3. Use cold compresses for the first 24 hours and warm compresses thereafter. Over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen and paracetamol (where medically appropriate) usually controls discomfort. Keep the area clean using warm salt-water rinses from day 2.
- 3
Days 4–7
Easing back to normal
Swelling subsides and discomfort steadily reduces. You can usually return to a normal diet, prioritising softer foods on the side of the mouth opposite the extraction. Continue salt-water rinses and gentle brushing of the surrounding teeth.
- 4
Day 7–10
Post-operative review
A short follow-up appointment confirms healing is progressing as expected. Any non-dissolving sutures placed at the time of surgery are removed at this visit. Most patients are fully back to normal activity by this stage.
When to contact us urgently: heavy bleeding that does not stop after 30 minutes of firm pressure with gauze, severe pain that worsens 3–5 days after the procedure (possible dry socket), spreading swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing or breathing. Call us on 020 7183 2362 or, out of hours, attend your nearest A&E.

Common questions about wisdom tooth extraction cost
Need a wisdom tooth removed?
A clinical assessment with x-rays will confirm the type of extraction you need and give you a written quote before any treatment is started. We aim to see patients in pain on the same or next working day where capacity allows.
