Core build-up (when required before a crown) Where a tooth has lost a substantial amount of structure, a core build-up may be needed before crown preparation. Quoted in writing for your approval. | From £150.00 | From £75.00 |
Multi-tooth totals shown are illustrative — calculated by multiplying the per-tooth fee. The exact number of teeth crowned, and the material chosen, are agreed with you after clinical assessment. Our monthly dental membership provides 50% off the per-tooth fee; see membership terms for full details.
What's Included in the £995 Crown Fee
Every crown is carried out by a GDC-registered dentist and is custom-made by a UK dental laboratory. The fee covers all of the following — examinations and x-rays are charged separately.
Shade selection
Using a shade guide in natural light, we agree the target shade together — to blend with your existing teeth or as part of a wider plan.
Conservative tooth preparation
Under local anaesthetic, the tooth is conservatively reshaped to make space for the crown. This preparation is irreversible and is explained in detail before consent.
Digital scan or impression
A precise digital scan (or conventional impression) is taken of the prepared tooth and your bite, and sent to a UK dental laboratory.
High-quality temporary crown
You leave the first appointment with a temporary crown that protects the prepared tooth, holds the space and lets you eat and speak normally — typically for 1–2 weeks.
Custom ceramic crown by a UK laboratory
Your crown is individually crafted from medical-grade full-contour zirconia or E-max lithium disilicate ceramic by a dental laboratory technician.
Fitting, bite check & bonding
The final crown is tried in, fit and contact points are checked, the bite is carefully adjusted, and the crown is bonded with high-strength dental adhesive. Written aftercare and a short review are included where clinically appropriate.
Your Crown Treatment Journey
A conventional crown is usually completed across two appointments, typically 1–2 weeks apart. The steps below describe a typical journey; your dentist will give you a personalised plan after assessment.
1.Consultation & written treatment plan
Clinical and radiographic assessment, discussion of the alternatives (large filling, onlay, crown, root canal where indicated), choice of material (zirconia or E-max), and a written, itemised treatment plan for your approval before treatment begins.
2.Tooth preparation, impressions & temporary crown
Under local anaesthetic, the tooth is conservatively prepared and a digital scan or impression is taken. A high-quality temporary crown is fitted to protect the tooth between visits — usually 1–2 weeks.
3.Laboratory fabrication
A UK dental laboratory technician individually crafts your custom crown from medical-grade zirconia or E-max ceramic to match your natural teeth.
4.Fitting your final crown
The temporary crown is removed, the final crown is tried in, the fit and contacts are checked, the bite is adjusted, and the crown is bonded with high-strength dental adhesive. You receive written aftercare and a short review where clinically appropriate.
Crowns are often recommended for
- Teeth with very large fillings that are at risk of fracture
- Teeth that have already fractured or have a large cusp missing
- Teeth after root canal treatment (especially back teeth)
- Restoring a single implant (the crown on top of an implant)
- Replacing old, failing or aesthetically poor existing crowns
A crown may not be the best option when
- A smaller restoration (filling, inlay or onlay) would conserve more natural tooth
- Active decay or gum disease is present — these are treated first
- The tooth has insufficient remaining structure to support a crown — a post and core, root canal, or extraction may be required
- You only want cosmetic change with a healthy tooth — veneers or bonding may be more conservative
- Significant bite or grinding issues are present — these are addressed alongside the crown
The right choice depends on a clinical and radiographic assessment by your dentist, who will explain the realistic options and risks for your individual situation before any irreversible treatment is agreed.
